One of my 2019 goals is to write 100,000 words and I have broken it down into a monthly goal of 8,334 word. Well, I made that goal in both Jan and Feb, but I blew that goal out of the water for March. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Jan: 8527
  • Feb: 8588
  • March: 18,395

Which gives me a total of 35,510 words as of the end of March, more than 10,000 words over my year to date expectation.

Two things really stand out as changes for March and they happened at the same time, mostly because one thing lead to another. The first is I found this program called Dabble Writer (dabblewriter.com) and it is amazing. It gives me a way to not only organize my writing but also a way to see how much I’m writing each day. It also has a goal & stat section that is in the corner of your screen, so you know right where you are and how far you have to go.

Finding Dabble Writer led me to getting excited, which led to me looking for more time to write, especially on days I have to work. AND I FOUND IT. Once I get out of the shower, I have 10-20 minutes built in before I have to get dressed for work. Before, I was getting back in bed and reading through email, playing Words with Friends or something stupid like that. Now, I go sit down in front of my computer and type up a journal entry. I usually get anywhere from 250 – 650 words written before my day even starts. Those words are usually about what I want to write about that day or what I need to work on that day, but sometimes I’m just bitching about how tired I am or how much I don’t want to go to work. Still, I’m writing, even if it isn’t good writing. It gets me started.

The other awesome thing about Dabble Writer is that as long as I have access to the internet, I can log into it. So, if I’m out at a cafe, I can take my iPad with me and log in. If I’m at a friends house, I can use their computer and log into Dabble Writer. It doesn’t really matter where I am. I will say this, they are still working on the tablet version, so there are some hiccups there, but they don’t bother me. I’m still thrilled with Dabble Writer.
